Small-batch ceramics & art · Cheshire, UK

Playful pots & happy art, made by hand in Cheshire.

Pootle Pottery is a tiny one-person studio tucked inside an old brick barn. Everything is thrown, squished, painted and fired right here, one joyful little batch at a time.

No two pieces the same.
Full of character, always.

Side A

Clay

Vases with wiggles, jars with mushroom hats, mugs that fit your hand just so. Functional stoneware that's far too cheerful to hide in a cupboard.

Side B

Paint

When the kiln's busy, the brushes come out. Bold gouache paintings and prints of pots, flowers and the rolling Cheshire countryside.

The studio

A little brick barn, a lot of mess

Down a bumpy lane in the Cheshire countryside you'll find shelves groaning with pots, a kiln called Kevin and an awful lot of clay dust. It's where every Pootle piece begins.

(the kettle's always on!)

How a Pootle pot happens

Squish, shape, paint, fire

Every piece passes through my hands at least a dozen times before it's ready for yours. Here's the short version.

  1. 1

    Squish

Clay is wedged by hand to knock out air bubbles. It's basically a very messy workout.

  2. 2

    Shape

Thrown on the wheel or built by hand, then given wiggly handles, bobbly feet and frilly bits.

  3. 3

    Paint

Dots, stripes and checks are painted on freehand with underglaze. Wobbly lines are a feature.

  4. 4

    Fire

Two trips through the kiln, the last at a toasty 1240°C, make it tough enough for everyday life.

Happy homes for handmade pots

My dotty vase makes me smile every single morning. It's like having a little friend on the windowsill.

We commissioned squiggle mugs for our wedding guests. Two years on, people still message us photos of their morning brew.

The open studio is the best afternoon out in Cheshire. Tea, cake and pots I absolutely could not stop buying.
